Transparent LED vs LED video wall vs LCD window display

Quick answer

If people must still see through the glass, choose a transparent LED display: it keeps over 80% transparency, weighs 3 kg/m² and covers any window size. If the screen does not need to be see-through and viewers are close, an LED video wall gives the sharpest large image. An LCD suits small windows where people read details from less than a metre away.

When to choose the MDS Mesh PCB Transparent LED Display

  • The window or glass wall must stay see-through, for daylight, for the view, or so people can see the products inside.
  • You want to cover large or unusual glass: panels join to any width, and the display can be curved to fit your design.
  • Nothing heavy can be fixed to the glass: at 3 kg/m² it can be adhered directly to the inside of the glass.
  • Viewers are about 2–5 m away (P3.9) or 5–10 m away (P6.25).

When an LED video wall is the better choice

  • The screen is on a wall, not on glass, and does not need to be see-through.
  • Viewers sit close and need fine detail: meeting rooms, control rooms, broadcast studios (P0.93–P1.25 COB).
  • Outdoor events and stages: the EH-PRO outdoor COB series (P1.56 / P1.95, IP65).

When an LCD window display makes sense

  • The window is small and people stand very close, for example reading a menu or a price list.
  • You do not mind the window being blocked behind the panel.

FAQ

Common questions

Is a transparent LED display better than an LCD for a shop window?

It depends on what matters more. A transparent LED display keeps the window see-through and lets daylight into the shop, and it can cover the whole glass at any size. An LCD shows finer detail when people stand very close but blocks the window and comes in fixed sizes. For most shop windows seen from 2 metres or more, transparent LED is the better fit.

When should I choose an LED video wall instead of transparent LED?

Choose a video wall when you do not need to see through the screen and want the sharpest image indoors, for example in meeting rooms, control rooms or TV studios. MDS indoor COB video walls go down to P0.93.

Is LED film the same as a Mesh PCB transparent LED display?

Buyers often call it LED film, adhesive film or glass LED. The MDS Mesh PCB Transparent LED Display does the same job: it can be adhered directly to the inside of the glass, or hung behind it if you prefer, with over 80% transparency.

Can a transparent LED display face direct sun?

The P3.9 reaches 4,000 nits and the P6.25 4,500 nits. Sun exposure differs from site to site, so we assess brightness for each project from the window direction and site photos rather than promise one figure for every window.
